CACDA – Canterbury Arts Centre Development Association
What is CACDA and what does it really do?

The Canterbury Arts Centre Development Association (CACDA) is a charitable foundation created in 1985 by parents and staff of the Arts Canterbury program. They recognized the need for extra support for the growing Arts Canterbury Program.

CACDA is run by a volunteer Board of Directors of dedicated parents, parents of former students, staff, former staff, alumni of the Arts Canterbury Programme, and other interested members of CACDA. The Board of Directors is elected for a one-year term at the Association's Annual General Meeting, which is held each October.

General membership is open to everyone who believes in the value of the Arts Canterbury Program.

In the past, CACDA has provided monies to offset the cost of auditions, bursaries for Arts students with financial needs, monies for dance accompanists, stage curtains, speakers and a sound system for the auditorium, a portable dance floor for dance performances, art books for the school library etc. The past six years have seen a lot of changes, both financial and curricular.

As funding for the Arts program has decreased, CACDA has been on to help support the program in more substantial ways than before.

In the past 4 years, CACDA has contributed over $75,000 to the day to day running of the Arts program.

From 2002 until 2005, CACDA contributed over $35,000 to the Arts program: helping cover the costs of supplies and the audition process.

In 2005/06 CACDA again contributed $15,000 to offset the cost of auditions.

CACDA has also contributed $25,000 to help cover the costs of a new winch system in the auditorium, which means that lights on the front of house bar can readily be adjusted for each event, without the use of scaffolding!

And in 2009, we fully funded the $30,000 required to replace the sound system in the auditorium!

We established the Canterbury Stars Return Endowment Fund, through the Community Foundation of Ottawa. With everyone’s help, we have surpassed our first goal of $100,000, and are underway to reach our new goal of $250,000 so that support for the arts program is assured each and every year.
